About Me

 Shelley Bell was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1969 and relocated to Houston, Texas, in 2000. A primarily self-taught artist, Shelley first discovered her creative voice through her dream of becoming a fashion designer. She spent countless hours filling sketchbooks with fashion illustrations, laying the foundation for the artistic journey that would follow.

In 1993, Shelley enrolled in fashion design courses at Long Beach City College. Alongside her fashion studies, she added art and painting classes to her curriculum. It was there that the first seeds of her future body of work were planted. Her very first oil painting proudly hung above her futon—a humble beginning that marked the start of a lifelong passion.

Shelley views her paintings as visual chapters of her life's journey. Each canvas reflects personal experiences, moments of growth, faith, resilience, and the beauty she discovers in everyday life. Through her work, she transforms these experiences into meaningful works of art that tell a unique story while inviting viewers to reflect on their own journeys.

Working primarily in oil, Shelley captures the beauty, diversity, and contrast of urban communities. Her paintings celebrate everyday life, emphasizing rich color, texture, composition, and atmosphere. Whether portraying neighborhood gathering places or intimate moments of community, her work seeks to evoke memories and emotions that connect viewers to their own life experiences.
