Shelley Adams was born in Los Angeles, California in 1969 and later moved to Houston, Texas in 2000. A primarily self taught artist inspired by her passion to become a fashion designer, she began drawing sketches in her sketch book.
Shelley began taking fashion design courses at Long Beach City College in 1993, Art and painting classes were added to her schedule as well. Inspired, the first seed of a future collection was birthed. Shelley's first painting was mounted above her futon.
Shelley believes her oil paintings are a account of her life's journey such as dealing with the death of her father almost knowing that the security they held was almost lost, but through her paintings each one being a visual page in her life personal journey. As she finds her way through the beauty of her world she constantly strives to balance the exclusive quality of painting.
Painting visual contrast of the life in urban diverse neighborhoods. Shelley's images of urban hangouts are poignant and insightful, balance of color texture shape and all the above. Shelley would like to invoke an emotion from the viewer which brings some kind of memory back to them. If an artist can touch upon the memory in turn brings up all kinds of emotions and lets the viewer really experience the painting.
Shelley thanks God for the gift to be creative and is tremendously blessed by the gift of many talents and her family and friends.
